Purwokerto merupakan wilayah di Kabupaten Banyumas yang memiliki kemajuan di berbagai aspek. Banyak masyarakat dari berbagai golongan seperti pelajar, pegawai hingga warga pendatang yang mempunyai kepentingan maupun keperluan di kota Purwokerto, sehingga harus menetap untuk sementara, khususnya yang berasal di luar Purwokerto. Hal tersebut menjadikan indikator perkembangan tempat kost di Purwokerto. Namun masih banyak masyarakat yang kesulitan menemukan lokasi dan informasi yang tepat dan akurat. Belum adanya sistem informasi yang memberikan informasi tempat kost membuat para pencari kost kesulitan menemukan tempat kost yang tepat. Selain pencari kos, pemilik kos juga mengalami permasalahan dalam memberikan informasi dan mempromosikan tempat kost, karena keterbatasan pengetahuan tentang kemajuan sistem informasi, dalam hal ini memerlukan sistem informasi pencarian dan penyewaan tempat kost unuk memberikan infromasi tempat kost seperti nama kost, alamat, fasilitas, harga, jumlah kamar tersisa, dan tampilan marker pada peta. Dengan memanfaatkan sistem informasi pencarian dan penyewaan tempat kost di Kota Purwokerto yang diterapkan pada Web. Dengan demikian sistem ini dapat membantu pencari tempat kost dalam mencari informasi tempat kost dan pemilik tempat kost dengan mudah mempromosikan tempat kost di Kota Purwokerto.
