Abstrak

Cosmetics are widely used by the community; however, not all products available on the market are safe or officially registered with the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM). Many illegal products still contain harmful substances that may cause adverse health effects. This community service program aimed to increase public knowledge and awareness in selecting and using safe cosmetics in accordance with regulations. The activity was carried out at Perum Korpri Tugurejo, Tugu District, Semarang City, using lectures, interactive discussions, and simulations of reading cosmetic labels. The materials delivered included characteristics of safe cosmetics, how to verify BPOM notification numbers, and the dangers of using unregistered products. The results indicated an improvement in participants’ understanding, as reflected in their active participation during discussions and their ability to distinguish safe products compared to before the session. In conclusion, this program proved effective in fostering a critical and prudent attitude among the community toward cosmetic selection, thereby reducing potential health risks caused by unsafe products.
